MINISTRIES
& GROUPS

Our small groups, also known as ministries or community groups, are small, intentional gatherings that focus on building relationships, spiritual growth, and serving others. These groups offer a place for participants to connect, develop friendships, and deepen their faith together.  Some of them happen Sunday morning, but many more happen throughout the week!

KidZone

Our ministry with children is a fun and busy place!  On Sunday mornings most of the year Children ages 3 to grade 3 join a group of dedicated volunteer leaders. Lessons include readings from the Spark Story Bible, trying different activities to explore and develop their own understanding of that story: crafts, games, science projects, cooking and baking, drama, and music just to name a few activities. Children begin worship with their families in the sanctuary and are invited to leave with the leaders after the conversation time. They are also welcome to stay in the sanctuary if that is more comfortable.

Youth Group

The Northminster Youth Group is a place to be yourself, find community, and have fun. It’s about getting out, engaging with others, exploring topics that are on your mind and how faith is part of that, and figuring out what's important and meaningful to you. We meet Sunday mornings during church, and a few other times each month for outings and special events.

Campus Ministry

Connecting and building relationships with the Campus Ministry program at the U of C we work together to support initiatives and learning opportunities.

Pastoral Care

Our prayer chain is a group of people who covenant together to offer private prayer for emergent needs within a congregation or community. Each member receives a notice of request from a leader and passes the request(s) to the next.

Commune- I- Care is another program in the congregation. Volunteers phone participants in the church three times per year to maintain contact and communication. Pastoral concerns may be voiced at this time and forwarded on to the appropriate staff member.

Prayer Shawl Ministry - there is nothing better than being wrapped in the warmth of a shawl. Volunteers make these beautiful items that we share with those struggling with grief, ill health, and stress. As these shawls are made, the crafter offers prayer, trusting that the one who will eventually use the shawl will know hope, peace, comfort, and healing.

Music Ministry

Want to make a joyful noise? Then you’ll be wanting to join one of our three choirs. We sing everything from classical to gospel to well-loved secular pieces, and at all occasions from Sunday worship to funerals and weddings upon request.

Come out for practices at 8:00 pm at St. David's United Church on Thursdays and 10:00am on Sunday mornings.  All keys welcome.

Healing Pathway

To view a short informational Healing Pathway video (just under 8 minutes) click on the following link.  https://vimeo.com/173105275

The body is an energy system. Healing Pathway influences this system, thus affecting one’s physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual health and healing. It is a process guided by God to restore wholeness and balance of body, mind, and spirit.

Healing pathways is not a substitute for medical care. It is not necessarily a cure. It is another type of holistic care and serves to complement traditional medicine. It can assist you in managing stress, relieving pain, speeding tissue and bone healing, strengthening the immune system, and promoting relaxation.

Appointments and meeting times can be arranged by contacting the office.

Christ’s ministry emphasizes healing in individuals, relationships and communities. Interest in reclaiming the church’s healing ministry continues to grow in our congregation.

Outreach

Northminster United Church is very passionate about outreach within our surrounding community and beyond. Relationships have been established with a few agencies such as North Central Resources, Brown Bagging Calgary, The Alex, the Kerby Centre and the Friendship Centre . We support many programs in our NW inner city communities along with a few that are city wide.

Northminster United Church seeks to be a hub for the community to meet and engage with one another for growth and empowerment regardless of where they are at in their personal lives. If you would like to connect with us to discuss how we may partner with you or an organization you are a part of for the development of the communities we serve, please contact our office
